MassHealth EVV Hard Edits: Providers Should Prepare Now for Claims Denials
MassHealth is moving toward enforcement of Electronic Visit Verification requirements through hard edits, making provider readiness essential.
MassHealth will begin implementing Electronic Visit Verification hard edits for Fee-for-Service providers before extending enforcement to Managed Care Entities. This is an important shift for home care providers because EVV compliance will move beyond monitoring and reporting into direct claims enforcement.
Once hard edits are in place, visits that do not meet EVV requirements may result in claim denials and lost reimbursement. Providers should use the upcoming training opportunities to confirm their systems, workflows, visit documentation, and billing processes are ready before enforcement begins.
Who Should Attend
MassHealth is strongly encouraging Home Health, GAFC, and ABI/MFP providers to participate in these trainings. Agencies should include billing, operations, compliance, EVV, and clinical leadership staff where appropriate.

Why This Matters
EVV hard edits create a direct connection between visit verification and payment. Agencies that have unresolved EVV issues, incomplete visit data, mismatched claims, or workflow gaps may face denials once enforcement begins.
Providers should review their internal EVV processes now, including staff training, visit capture, exception management, billing review, and communication between operations and revenue cycle teams. Waiting until claims begin denying will put agencies at greater financial and operational risk.
The Alliance strongly encourages impacted providers to attend the MassHealth trainings and use this time to identify and resolve issues before hard edits take effect.
