Legacy of Care Mentorship Program Exceeds Expectations: Workforce Retention Soars
Retention, Job Satisfaction, and Team Culture Thrive Through Mentorship in Home Care Agencies
Last week, the Alliance's HCBS Workforce Grant to create a Legacy of Care Mentorship Program came to an end. The nearly $1 million grant aimed to establish mentorship programs within 25 member agencies across the state. The initial results of the program are astounding!
Agencies participating in the program had a baseline 66.41% retention rate prior to implementing the mentor program. At the grant's conclusion, agencies reported a 96.97% retention rate among new hires. There were also drastic increases in job satisfaction, confidence and the onboarding process. Participating agencies reported significant improvement in team culture and communication. And many saw an organic uptick in mentees referring peers to their agencies for employment.
You can find the full results and additional information on this page. These results affirm our outlook on addressing workforce challenges. Competitive pay and compensation are a critical first step to attracting and retaining workers. But once we hire them, the onboarding process and culture around support and mentorship can yield serious dividends by way of retention and cutting down turnover costs.
We applaud all of the participating agencies who took this project on, and our grant partners Nevvon and the Community Health Care Services Foundation who made it all possible.
