Commonwealth Care Alliance, a major One Care and SCO provider in Massachusetts, is seeking a financial partner to bail them out of a years-long financial decline that recently hit crisis level, according to a report this week from the Boston Globe. MassHealth suspended enrollments in the CCA SCO last fall over concerns that the insurer doesn’t have adequate cash reserves to meet MassHealth requirements.
Despite the financial concerns, CCA staff assured the Alliance this morning that they have adequate cash to continue to reimburse providers for all services to CCA members. Providers should continue to serve CCA members and bill as usual.
CCA currently insures nearly 50,000 MA residents through its One Care product for disabled individuals under the age of 65 and its SCO product for elders. According to the Globe report, CCA covers 20% of all SCO enrollees in the state and 70% of all One Care enrollees.
CCA staff have promised to keep the Alliance informed of any developments as they seek to stabilize their finances.
