Revised memo clarifies which survey functions continue and which are paused until funding resumes

CMS has released updated guidance (QSO-26-01-ALL-Revised, Oct. 21, 2025) outlining how State Survey Agencies and accrediting bodies should operate during the ongoing federal shutdown. Routine surveys for most providers are paused, while hospice surveys and complaint investigations involving harm will continue. CHAP has confirmed its survey operations remain unaffected.
