DPH Reports Very High Flu Activity and Hospital Strain Across Massachusetts
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) reported in a DPH Press Release: a very high influenza activity statewide, with cases continuing to rise and hospitals experiencing significant strain from respiratory illnesses—primarily Influenza A (H3N2). DPH notes that the dominant strain may reduce the benefit of prior immunity this season.
Home- and community-based providers are encouraged to reinforce infection control practices, support appropriate home management for mild illness, consider antiviral treatment when indicated, and continue promoting vaccination for influenza, COVID-19, and RSV.
DPH also shared Governor Healey’s statement opposing the CDC’s rollback of routine childhood vaccine recommendations. Refer to the following Mass.gov resources for more information.
