Several Massachusetts home health agencies were named among the state’s top performers in a new analysis by U.S. News & World Report, which evaluated providers based on healthcare quality and patient experience.

Massachusetts has 310 Medicare-certified home health agencies. U.S. News identified a smaller group as High Performing, indicating strong clinical outcomes and consistently positive patient feedback.

How agencies were evaluated

The rankings are based on publicly reported data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Agencies were assessed on:

  • Quality of care, including patient outcomes and avoidance of preventable hospitalizations
  • Patient experience, drawn from national surveys of patients and family caregivers

Scores were combined to produce an overall rating and benchmark agencies against national performance standards.

These rankings provide independent validation of the work agencies do every day—often under challenging regulatory, workforce, and reimbursement conditions.

For patients and families, the ratings offer a helpful tool when choosing a provider. For policymakers and payers, they underscore the critical role high-quality home health agencies play in reducing hospital utilization and supporting care in the home. For providers, they serve as a benchmark and a point of pride.

The Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts is proud to see many of its member agencies recognized in this national analysis. These results reinforce the value of strong quality standards, regulatory engagement, and peer collaboration—core pillars of Alliance membership.
