Congress Moves to Protect Home Health
Bipartisan bill from Reps. Kevin Hern (R-OK) and Terri Sewell (D-AL) would pause Medicare home health payment cuts for 2026–2027
The Home Health Stabilization Act of 2025 was introduced last week by Reps. Kevin Hern (R-OK) and Terri Sewell (D-AL). This bipartisan bill would pause the 9% Medicare payment cuts proposed by CMS for 2026 and 2027.
For Massachusetts, the stakes are high. These cuts would reduce access to care, increase hospital boarding, and leave vulnerable seniors without the support they need at home. Research shows that when patients can’t get home health, hospital readmissions and mortality rise — and overall Medicare spending increases.
The Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts joins the national Alliance in urging Congress to act quickly. Protecting Medicare home health means protecting patients, hospitals, and taxpayers here in the Commonwealth. Email your member of Congress urging them to co-sponsor H.R. 5142 The Home Health Stabilization Act of 2025.
